Summary:

In a little known corner of western North America stands one of Earth’s most incredible wild places. But its obscurity and limited public awareness has also left it vulnerable to a century of industrial logging and mining.

To inspire protection of what remains here today, Klamath-Siskiyou Film partners with environmental organizations, scientific researchers, and outdoor enthusiasts to share a window into this world with those who would not otherwise have the opportunity to experience it.

The ancient forests of the Klamath-Siskiyou survive as a vivid, living window into the melding of biological and geological evolution on Earth. Mostly untouched by recent ice ages, the region’s flora and fauna provide glimpses into a history barely imaginable by us today. This keystone of life’s triumph is hidden in far northwest California and southwestern Oregon, between the Pacific Ocean and the Cascade volcanoes.

Klamath from Aaron Moffatt on Vimeo.

Based on the urgency I felt for a BBC-quality film to be made about this little known mountain range, I began filming KLAMATH in 2012.

In the beginning I planned to spend 6 months on the project before moving to bigger subjects. I did not however release this film until 4 years later.

In studying the region more closely, my mindset about what is ‘bigger’ and ‘important’ shifted. I now believe the most valuable thing I can do is to help ensure this place is still intact for future generations, who will have tools to truly understand how these ecosystems work, and their role in the greater planet Earth.
