Swami Dattatreya Rama Rao Parvatikar (1916-1990) aka Veena Baba was a saint musician and a skilled player of the Rudra Veena and Dattatreya Veena. He invented the Dattatreya Veena by blending the Sitar, Swarmandal & Rudra Veena and was probably the only player of this unique instrument.
The French musicologist Alain Daniélou made recordings of his performances in the 1950s, some of which were published in the 1997 album – ‘Anthology of Indian Classical Music – A Tribute to Alain Daniélou’.
In this recording, Swamiji plays Raga Chakor Lalita on the Dattatreya Veena. Vilambit & Drut Gats set to Teental.
