The speaker gives her talk under the apparently noble pretext that we need to prepare ourselves for the fair and just use of neurotechnology in the workplace. But, historically, the systems of control that have been installed to manage living populations have always been delivered under the same rhetoric of efficiency, health, safety, and well-being.
The ruling class and their official lackeys must pretend that they are taking on the burden of social responsibility, of governing us, of managing us “for our own good,” but the crack in their smile betrays the truth. The function of this kind of concerned palliative discourse is not preparation, but anticipative normalization : we are led to believe, in a neutral and quite sober tone, that this technology is inevitable, that we must embrace it, and that it could, if handled properly, even deliver us from any avoidable risks and harm.
Don’t be fooled by the soft strategy this is in fact an ideological Trojan horse. The pigs who hold power know that if this kind of technology were widely implemented without the moral façade, then we would hardly be of two minds about it; rather, we would see it plainly for what is – a tool to ensure the social control of the masses while they intensify their exploitation and accelerate the degradation of human living standards.
This technocratic sermon at Davos is a ruse to introduce us to our new chains. A bit of “exposure therapy”, as we slide gently into the dystopic madness of another rejected episode of black-mirror. The teeth on the gears of the machine are closing tight. We must nevertheless refuse. We must revolt against the insinuating moralism of this new passive-aggressive form of authoritarianism. Before it’s too late.
