What is the UK Covid-19 Inquiry?

The UK Covid-19 Inquiry has been set up to examine the UK’s response to and impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, and learn lessons for the future. The Inquiry’s work is guided by its Terms of Reference.

Progress of the Inquiry

The Inquiry began on 28 June 2022. Its investigations are organised into Modules. Throughout each of these Modules, the Inquiry hears evidence from witnesses, experts and Core Participants through a series of corresponding hearings.

Chair’s statement on the final Terms of Reference – UK Covid-19 Inquiry

The Chair of the UK Covid-19 Inquiry, Baroness Heather Hallett, has made a statement on the final Terms of Reference for the Inquiry, which were set today by the Prime Minister. The final Terms of Reference set the outline for the Inquiry’s investigations.

The Inquiry has now been formally established under the Inquiries Act (2005).

In her statement, Baroness Hallett makes seven promises to the public about how she will run the Inquiry. This includes a commitment to keep those most impacted by the pandemic at the heart of the Inquiry, to conduct a fair, balanced and thorough Inquiry, and to make recommendations as soon as possible through interim reports.
